In "Invisible Strings Shivering", I set out in search of the essence of chamber music interplay within a sound body that is deeply familiar to us — the string quartet. It is a search for the magic that has accompanied and fascinated me for nearly my entire life. All musicians are connected by nylon threads attached to their instruments. Over the course of the piece, they gradually detach from one another, set aside their instruments, and begin to play the nylon threads attached to the cello. "Invisible Strings Shivering" begins with what could be called “extreme chamber music” and ends with a small cello concerto. The piece takes the audience on a journey—from the archaic sounds of vibrating nylon threads to fragile cello tones. The performativity of the preparations visually enhances the work: capturing the threads as they glisten in the light, the tactile engagement with them, the act of playing them—and the fascination with the sticky substance that binds everything together.
